There is a broad and deep repudiation of Washington politics.
The emergence of grassroots citizen movements and shifting political allegiances should be a clarion call to politicians of all stripes to pay serious attention to voters representing every economic, social, and education level.
The public’s lack of confidence in politicians is not limited to a particular political party or ideology – this is an indictment against liberals and conservatives, Democrats, Independents, and Republicans alike.
They’ve all consistently failed to serve the people. Instead, elected officials have increasingly shown greater loyalty to their ideologies, pet projects, and special interests than to the needs of their constituents and the nation as a whole.
As citizens continue to coalesce and galvanize into forceful grassroots political and social movements (as evidenced partly by new voting preferences), politicians would be smart to recognize the strength and energy that is evolving to reshape the political landscape.
